What to Wear to the Office Holiday Party

The trick to this type of fete is to err on the side of a slightly conservative look—after all, you’re mingling with your boss!— but to still look festive and fun. Go for a classic, well-tailored, not-too-low-cut cocktail dress that’s no shorter than a couple inches above the knee.

Have fun with embellishment—sequins, feathers, ruffles and beading. Luxe brocade, silky satin and soft velvet are totally holiday-appropriate, especially in wintry tones like cranberry, navy, rich hunter green and even basic black.

Throw on your favorite pumps and add a few (not too many!) well-placed pieces of jewelry—one or two bangles, a statement necklace or a great cocktail ring—and you’re ready to hit your work shindig in style.

What to Wear When Hosting Christmas Dinner

Looking holiday-appropriate doesn’t mean you need to reach for a reindeer sweater or snowflake-embroidered cap! Look yuletide-chic in cozy but tailored separates. Wide-leg wool trousers paired with a soft, feminine chiffon blouse, jewel-toned tank or luxe camel-colored knit make for great hostess attire.

Go with ballet flats, little loafers or brogues for maximum comfort. A beautiful full skirt is a festive, feminine alternative choice, especially when worn with a colorful cashmere cardigan twinset. Finish off your look with traditional accessories like a strand of pearls or a pair of diamond stud earrings.

What to Wear to a New Year’s Eve Party

New Year’s Eve is all about excess and frivolity, so of course your look should reflect that same more-is-more spirit. There’s no better time to try out a head-turning little dress in a standout metallic, bold print, one-of-a-kind pattern or a piece with elaborate beadwork or feather trim. Dare to show some skin—and personality, too, with a statement necklace or sky-high heel.

A jeweled minaudiere or clutch makes for a great finishing touch. Beauty-wise, there’s nothing like a bold red lip, fun glittery eyeshadow or liner, and a light dusting of shimmery, highlighting face powder to set off your entire look.
