Body Confidence

I know how strongly you feel about seeing women who represent a range of beauty in your fashion media, young, old, slender and curvaceous because youve all been telling me on twitter. All Walks the campaign I co founded does just that and yesterday I attended a landmark event at Westminster, which Im gagging to tell you about!

Govt. Minister Lynne Featherstone Lib Dem MP Jo Swinson, Conservative MP Caroline Noaks and Labour MP Mary Glindon along with many others including renowned psychologist Susie Orbach celebrated the launch of the All Party Parliamentary Group, which places Body Image and Body Diversity at the centre of goverment interest.

The event was orchestrated by the YMCA who yesterday announced their findings on body confidence  and concluded that nearly half of all the respondents  in their survey (48.9%) said more diversity in the appearance of people shown in advertising, magazines, fashion and on TV (including body shapes and sizes, ages and ethnicities) would be helpful to promote positive body image.

The fact is with record numbers of loans being required for cosmetic surgery and 70% of women  a having dieted to change their body shape, we have to look at our current fashion media and try for more diversity. Easier said then done and I know this having devoted almost two years unwaged to pursuing change. We are however, with events like yesterdayon the way.
